Note:
This position is offered on a contractual basis and will be for a limited period. The contract will remain valid until the completion of the project.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Conduct daily and periodic safety inspections in the workplace to identify and correct potential hazards.
• Report findings to the Safety Engineer for further analysis and appropriate action.
• Participate in accident investigations, collect relevant data, and assist in preparing investigation reports.
• Follow up on corrective actions to ensure timely implementation.
• Support the implementation of safety policies and procedures in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure employees are aware of and understand safe practices and procedures.
• Assist in organizing and delivering safety training sessions for employees.
• Contribute to awareness campaigns to promote a safety culture.
• Assist in implementing evacuation plans during emergencies.
• Conduct regular emergency response training sessions for employees.
• Ensure the availability of fire extinguishing equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) on site.
• Conduct periodic inspections and coordinate maintenance activities.
• Collaborate with evacuation and response teams to conduct regular drills.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of drills and recommend improvements.
• Monitor compliance with no-smoking policies in designated areas.
• Report any violations to the Safety Engineer.
• Monitor pedestrian walkways and vehicle paths to ensure safety; enforce speed limits and traffic safety measures.
• Assist in installing traffic and safety signs at critical points to enhance visibility and improve traffic flow.
• Conduct regular training sessions for both pedestrians and vehicle operators to raise awareness of traffic laws and safe behaviors.
• Perform periodic safety audits (GEMBA audits) in coordination with the Safety Engineer.
• Conduct general safety inspections, including but not limited to:
• Inspection of chemical spill response equipment, diphothrine containers, and chemical spill kits across all plant units to ensure readiness.
• Inspection of first aid kits to ensure functionality.
• Operational checks of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), troubleshooting and refilling low-pressure units.
• Inspection of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
• Operational inspection of fire water isolation valves.
• Inspection of breathing air cylinders.
• Inspection of fire alarm panels, medical oxygen cylinders, weather stations, fire foam, and chemical foam.
• Inspection and replacement (as needed) of portable fire extinguishers.
• Operational checks and inspection of chemical spill control devices.
• Operational checks and inspection of fire hoses.
• Inspection of fall protection harnesses.
• Inspection of ladders.
• Operational checks and inspection of self-retractable fall arrestors.
• Operational checks and inspection of fire hydrants.
• Identify areas needing improvement and provide recommendations.
Skills
Educational Qualifications:
• Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent, such as a Diploma in Chemical Industries, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
Professional Certifications and Training:
• Professional certifications and accreditations from the Directorate of Occupational Safety and the Ministry of Labor upon vertical career advancement.
Work Experience:
• 1-3 years of experience in occupational safety and health, specifically in hazardous industries.
Required Knowledge:
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety laws and regulations.
• Ability to analyze risks and implement appropriate preventive measures.
