Job Description

The Trauma Director is responsible for providing strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for the Trauma Program, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based trauma care. The role oversees trauma services, manages multidisciplinary teams, and ensures adherence to international trauma standards.

The ideal candidate will have completed advanced trauma or surgical fellowship training in Europe or the United States, is currently working in a Level 1 Trauma Center, and is eligible for DOH Abu Dhabi licensure.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Program Management

  • Lead the development, oversight, and continuous improvement of the Trauma Program.
  • Ensure compliance with international and local trauma accreditation standards.
  • Oversee multidisciplinary trauma team operations and workflow.
  • Develop and maintain trauma policies, guidelines, and clinical pathways.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide expert clinical management of critically injured trauma patients.
  • Participate in trauma call duties as required.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate trauma surgeons, residents, and trainees.

Quality & Performance Improvement

  • Lead trauma quality initiatives, audits, and performance improvement processes.
  • Conduct trauma morbidity and mortality reviews.
  • Utilize trauma registry data to drive clinical improvements.

Education & Training

  • Develop and deliver trauma-related training and simulation programs.
  • Support CME activities and staff competency development.
  • Engage in community-based injury prevention activities.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as primary liaison between Trauma Services and EMS, Emergency Department, ICU, surgery, and related departments.
  • Coordinate with local, regional, and national trauma systems.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Training

  • Board-certified/eligible in Trauma Surgery, Acute Care Surgery, or General Surgery.
  • Fellowship or advanced training in trauma/critical care completed in Europe or the United States (mandatory).

Experience

  • Minimum 5–7 years of post-training experience in trauma and acute care surgery.
  • Currently practicing in a Level 1 Trauma Center (mandatory).
  • Proven leadership experience within trauma program administration.

Licensure & Eligibility

  • Eligible for Department of Health (DOH) Abu Dhabi Licensure (mandatory).
  • Ability to meet DOH credentialing requirements for Consultant-level practice.
